Have you ever seen a busted can of biscuits? That is what my students look like when they pile onto our small classroom carpet and try to learn. The students are elbow to elbow, knee to knee, and spilling over the edges. It is very difficult for them to spread out and do any kind of activity without accidentally (or purposely) bumping or hitting another student. It is a constant distraction for the students and impedes the learning process. I know as a teacher that a large carpet for classroom seating is one of our most expensive purchases. It would be thrilling to see these students spread out and learn to their full potential.
