Research consistently shows that students do better academically and socially when their families are involved with their learning and schools build relationships with the families. This project seeks to get the families engaged and not just involved with their student's learning. These office materials will help the students conduct workshops with their parents. The students will use these materials to show their parents what they are learning in their ELA class. The students will use the office supplies to prepare the trainings for their parents. The students will create their parents' invitations, place materials for the workshops in the folders and prepare the take home materials in the Ziploc bags for easy storage and distribution. The parents will experience activities the students are taught in class as well as have the opportunity to look at their students work to gain a better understanding of challenges their students may face. The supplies, many of which are office supplies, will be used for the parents to take materials home and store them and work with their students at home on hands-on activities and homework. The workshops will help the parents to better understand the academic expectations for the students and provide them with the knowledge to assist them better at home. Ultimately we will be working to forge a better collaboration between home and school which will impact and improve student academic performance.
