  • Back to School Book Extravaganza

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

These books have provided fantastic read-alouds for my students the entire year! Many of these books have become class favorites and we've read them over and over! These books were used to teach lessons on emotions, our first days of school, and one of our units where students learn all about them!

They loved reading The Magical Yet! After reading it they set goals for this year in class and we celebrated when they reached them! Another one of their favorites is In My Heart: A Book of Feelings. My students love how each color relates to an emotion. It's one of their favorites to read during library!

My students love that our classroom is full of so many wonderful books, and I'm so happy to see their love of reading grow!”

  • Magical Mentor Texts and Books Galore

    Funded Aug 1, 2019

These leveled texts have provided fantastic books for our reading workshop! These books have been used alongside lessons working on foundational reading skills. Students have learned about print concepts and with these resources were able to apply their new skills directly to books that they are interested in reading. Each week students are able to 'book shop' for new books that they may want to read and have found favorite series and authors through these new resources.

  • Creating Lifelong Readers

    Funded Apr 18, 2019

These emergent storybooks have helped launch our reading workshop! The emergent storybooks have taught students about plot, characters, and setting. In class we have read and reread these stories many times, and students are now able to retell the beginning, middle, and ending on their own! My students have used these familiar storybooks to strengthen their reading muscles on the way to becoming conventional readers and found some favorite books along the way.

Each table in my classroom now has a communal bin filled with a variety of storybooks, and thanks to your generosity there are enough for each student! During our literacy time, students first choose a favorite storybook to read independently. Next students retell that story to a partner during partner reading time!

These books have been part of our favorite time of day! Many of my students have loved getting into character as they retell, and it's wonderful to see their love of reading take off. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Richards

These emergent storybooks will be used to launch our reading workshop to create avid readers! Emergent storybooks hold rich story language with pictures that show plot, characters, and setting. These can trigger the story for the reader. Children learn to read with greater ease when they have been read and can reread good strong literature that does not rely solely on phonics. My students will use these familiar storybooks to strengthen their reading muscles on the way to becoming conventional readers! With your help, each table in my classroom will have a communal bin filled with a variety of storybooks. Each students will be able to select an old favorite of their choice during reading workshop and read and retell it to their partner. They will not only be developing a lifelong love of reading but an understanding of how books have meaning and tell a story. Having access to books is a game changer! Studies have shown that the difference between a child getting a high school diploma or not is by a mere 500 books over the course of their education. My goal is to help them gain access to books that instill a love of literature for years to come.
