  • Classroom Essentials for the Year

    Funded Sep 19, 2024

I appreciate your generous donation very much. Making sure my classroom has everything they need to be successful is my number one priority, and your donation helps me do just that. Not everyone realizes that every day, teachers have to spend money out of their own pockets on basic classroom supplies.

The community that I teach in is made up of students who face struggles in their personal lives, but are still eager to learn. They enjoy interacting with each other as well as participating in lessons that engage them. The supplies you helped to fund allow them to do that!

Thank you for your support of teachers and students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Consoli

  • A Laptop for Learning!

    Funded Sep 26, 2023

I am overwhelmed by your generosity and appreciate your donation more than I can put into words. Making sure my students have everything they need to be successful is my number one priority and your donation helps me do just that. Now we will have the technology we so desperately need to make exciting lessons happen!

The community that I teach in is made up of students who are eager to learn and love to use technology. They enjoy interacting with lessons that engage them through the newest educational online platforms.

Your donation helps me to enhance my students' learning by engaging them with technology every day in the classroom. With a reliable computer, we are now able to consistently connect to wifi and project lessons onto our interactive whiteboard.

Curriculum in the classroom has come far over the past several years and some of the most engaging lessons are the ones that are digital and help students learn through the use of both audio and visual media, as well as with the digital version of our textbook. Your generosity has allowed me to add this resource to my classroom and most importantly, to help usher my students on their learning adventure!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Consoli

  • This Book is a Game Changer!

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

As an English teacher, I believe that reading about current topics is the best way to learn about what is going on in the lives of the people around us. My hope is that by introducing my students to high-interest books touching on current social issues in the areas of race, tolerance, and LGBTQ+, they will connect with the characters and also build empathy for the struggles of others around them.

We read this title because it touches on all of the above issues and explores the question of "what if?" which prompted discussions about what it would be like if some groups of people in society were switched with others. It was an interesting and new angle to approach this topic from.

There is nothing like having students walk into your class eager to pick up where we left off the day before in a book. The theme of self-identity makes a powerful connection in eighth grade! Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Consoli

  • Get Hooked on Great Books

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

As an English teacher, I encourage my students to read for pleasure whenever they can. Building that foundation early puts them on their way to being lifelong readers! My hope is that introducing them to high-interest books in the classroom will encourage them to read on their own as well.

Your generous donation allowed me to fill class sets of four different titles, all current, high-interest titles that will have my whole class engaged. We just finished one of the titles today and they were so disappointed for it to be done. This is a great feeling for an English Language Arts teacher, that's for sure!

Without donors like you, it would be so much more difficult to bring this kind of excitement into the classroom. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Consoli

  • Romeo and Juliet for Today's Readers

    Funded Apr 25, 2022

Every spring we read Romeo and Juliet. Reading it in this abridged format is a much less intimidating way to introduce Shakespeare to young readers. They love everything about the story - the drama, the humor, the sword fighting, and the tragic love of the two main characters. We dress up in costume and read aloud, building speaking and listening skills, while also strengthening our reading skills. This version of the story allows us to jump back and forth from Shakespeare's time period into modern-day language so that we can fully understand what is happening between the characters.

Your generous donation helped to bring many more years of Romeo and Juliet to my classroom and to the lives of hundreds of students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Consoli

  • Bringing The Outsiders In

    Funded Oct 14, 2021

As an English teacher, I encourage my students to read for pleasure whenever they can. Building that foundation early puts them on their way to being lifelong readers! My hope is that introducing them to high-interest books in the classroom will encourage them to read on their own as well. We don't get to read many novels in the classroom but The Outsiders is a must.

One of my class periods is an Intervention group of eighth-grade boys who struggle with reading at grade level. Digging into books with engaging class discussions about the characters and what motivates these characters to move forward in the story works best if the book hooks the reader, especially in the case of a class like this.

There is nothing like having students walk into your class eager to pick up where we left off the day before. Ponyboy, Dallas, Johnny, and the other characters make this book a page-turner that gets teens hooked. The theme of self-identity makes a powerful connection in eighth grade! Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Consoli

  • Harnessing the Power of Technology!

    Funded Aug 26, 2021

After a year and a half of at-home remote learning, students have become accustomed to learning through technology. Unfortunately, some schools districts are slower to catch up with this technology. But with generous donors like you, I can help keep my classroom up to date and utilize digital platforms that benefit all of my students! I think I am the first teacher in my school to have a classroom iPad and the students are so happy to be able to use it to catch up on assignments and missed readings. So far, it has been the most useful for my English Language Learners who benefit from listening to the audio version of a text in English while also following along with the words on the page. I cannot thank you enough for allowing me to be able to offer this to them.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Consoli

  • Ignite Our Kindle Fires!

    Funded Feb 15, 2013

I can't thank you enough for your generous donations to my classroom project. The Kindle Fires that you helped me purchase are one of the most exciting supplies I have ever brought into my classroom. We use them as reference tools, word processors, spell checkers, and portable libraries. The possibilities of all that can be done throughout the school year are endless. Their potential continues to be unlocked as we add apps and books, photos and songs to them.

For English language learners, there is no greater resource than support of the English language right at their fingertips. For them, the Kindle is a tutor, a translator, a mobile dictionary, and even models pronunciation.

These Kindle Fires will open the door to so many new opportunities for learning. This generation thrives on technology and by putting it right into the hands of my students, you have given them such a wonderful gift.

As you know, school budgets are tight and a resource like this, no matter how necessary, could not have been afforded without your help. My long term goal is to build an entire class set of Kindles and you have helped to start me on my way. Thank you again!”

This district is among the lowest scoring in the state and the majority of our students are from impoverished neighborhoods. My school beats these statistics by continuously scoring above and beyond the rest of our district.
