A huge part of our class curriculum is the 30 Book Reading Challenge. From the beginning of the year, I challenge my students to read as many books of their own choosing as possible. Reading recreationally expands vocabulary, improves reading fluency, and exposes students to diverse examples of what good writing looks like. The goal is to complete 30 books of varying genres by the end of the year, however; even if a student only completes a few books, they will have improved each of those skills by reading something that they actually enjoy. In order for students to participate in this challenge, they need access to as many books as possible. Each class I serve is an eclectic mix of interests and the more books I can provide to appeal to them, the more likely it will be that the already enthusiastic will continue to grow as readers and the reluctant will find something that engages them enough to get them hooked on reading. Your donations will help me provide a multitude of options to encourage reading that are available right where they already go each day.
