  • Back to School Basics in the Time of Inflation

    Funded Sep 19, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donations. This year has been more difficult than my past years as a teacher, as early in the school year, I broke my leg in three places, had a complicated surgery with a titanium rod implanted in my tibia, and as a result, I was out of the classroom from October through January. Apologies for the late thank-you package.

I deeply appreciate your donations even more so, because even in my absence, my paraprofessionals and students had the basics that I could not have supplied myself had I been here.

Your generosity means the world to me and the students, as we try to catch up on all the work we missed. Knowing that we don't have to struggle with finding the basics makes the days easier for us all.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nicolai

  • Help Me Replenish My Students' Classroom Supplies!

    Funded Oct 7, 2021

Thank you so much for our whiteboard and cleaning supplies. Because of your donation, I've been able to accommodate more students in my classroom and more movement throughout the day as a result of the flexible setup a freestanding whiteboard gives us.

Also, the cleaning supplies have come in very handy because we've done lots of fun, messy tactile projects inside the classroom and elsewhere in the building to give the students a more hands-on learning experience. We're trying hard to make up for the time lost to remote learning where hands on experiences were not possible.

The students, my paraprofessionals, and I were so excited to get all the supplies, we spent an entire day putting things together and reorganizing the classroom together as soon as we could. We are really so grateful for your gifts and so happy to be able to use them to enhance experiences for our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nicolai

  • Help Us Make The Most of Our Technology!

    Funded Nov 15, 2017

Thank you so much for all of your help in getting our classroom headphones. We use them every day. It's so nice to be able to work independently on our math and reading assignments, and we even use them during free time to play games together.

When some of us need extra help in math or reading, there are programs on the computer to help us catch up. We can stay in our classroom and practice on our own with a teacher and assistant teacher nearby to help when we get stuck. We can play learning games, solve practice problems, and even watch videos to help us understand things better.

Some of us come from other countries and can find videos in our native language to help explain the things we're learning in the classroom better, so we can be sure we understand everything that's going on in class. Some of us use the computers to practice our English reading and speaking as well.

We are also studying coding, and we are interested in learning about jobs where we can use computers everyday when we grow up. Some of us are really really good at video games and making YouTube videos and would like to think of a career in technology one day. Being able to use the technology in our classroom better gives us more experience, especially for those of us who don't have computers and tablets at home.

We are finding new uses for your generous donation everyday and we thank you very very much.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Nicolai

It seems that the harsh cleaning products that we used to combat Covid over the past 18 months have ruined some of our classroom supplies. The great sanitizing efforts we have made to keep our students healthy and safe from viral infection have taken their toll on many of our necessary everyday learning supplies, like whiteboards, iPad chargers, and erasers. Securing supplies like these from the DOE store is possible, but it often takes months of red-tape and filling out forms to acquire, time better spent helping students catch up on what they missed in the disruption of the pandemic. Without basic adequate supplies like whiteboards or iPad chargers, my students can often become frustrated and shut down due to symptoms of their disabilities. They have overcome so many hurdles already, and I'm trying to get them back to the most normal routine as possible, as quickly as possible. I'm hoping that the generous people of the internet can help me do that. Also, I included some less-caustic cleaning products in this donation in hopes that we can keep our things clean and safe without damaging them in the future.
