  • STEM and Creative Writing

    Funded Nov 13, 2024

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation to our classroom. Your support has provided my students with markers, popsicle sticks and craft supplies allowing them to explore their creativity in new and exciting ways.

Because of your kindness, my students have been able to do something many of them have never done in a classroom before. Seeing their enthusiasm and engagement has been truly rewarding, and I am so grateful for the opportunities your donation is providing our class!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Taylor

  • Saving the Planet One Read at a Time

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

Thank you for supporting reading in my high school classroom. This class is for struggling readers and those who have not been able to pass state reading exams.

"Girls Who Green The World", gives students a chance to read relevant information about their world and how women are making positive impacts on the environment. Students today have never lived in a time that their environment wasn't threatened. This book provides hope and inspiration. When students are reading and they look up and ask a question about what they have just read, my heart does a happy dance! I know this is impactful!”

  • Breakfast Club

    Funded Aug 9, 2024

Thank you for donating to our classroom. Student truly appreciate the "pick me up"you made possible. When you see the smiles on these students faces you will clearly know how impactful your donation is.

Some students will come to school hungry and cannot focus on their academic goals. The generosity of your donation has given students a small snack to get them through until lunch time.

Thank you so very much! This is a great gift that I couldn't possibly make happen on my own.

Your kindness not only fills their bellies but also fosters a sense of community and care within our school. We truly appreciate your commitment to supporting our students and enhancing their educational environment.”

    With gratitude,

  • Intellectual Freedom, Don't Waste It

    Funded Feb 22, 2024

Thank you for funding our project and putting a novel in the hands of each student. "Fahrenheit 451", teaches us about society and censorship and the dangers of ignorance.

Eighty percent of students rated the book six out of ten or higher. Ninety percent of students said they would recommend all students read the book.

After reading the book, our class watched the 1966 and 2018 movie versions and compared these with our experience with the book. When asked, if all books were destroyed, which book would they save; students had a variety of thoughtful answers. "I'd choose 'To Kill A Mockingbird', it's a story about fairness and bravery, tackling issues like racism standing up for what's right." This is what great literature is for!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Taylor

  • Breakfast Club

    Funded Feb 5, 2024

A smile says it all ! A smile from a teenager during school is a rarity, but thanks to your generosity there are plenty of smiles in my classroom.

Your donation provides morning snacks for hungry teens and keeps them happy and productive. Just look at our class photos to see a few examples of smiling teenagers who do not normally show up to school with anything more than grimaces.

It may seem surprising but your donation was the best gift ever received! We definitely appreciate your support of our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

  • No ChatGPT Please- Original Thoughts Only

    Funded Aug 17, 2023

My students enjoy the whiteboards and markers. Students who are often disengaged with classroom activities, become very involved when we use the whiteboards. It seems to " level the playing field". Students who are generally unsure of their writing, can express themselves in response to any literature in a non-competitive manner. We've used the whiteboards in several ways in response to literature, by creating plot summaries and plot lines, visualizations of content and quick writes. From a classic, like "Great Expectations" to "Speak", a new young adult novel, these materials have provided a unique way for students to express themselves.”

  • Alienation - Coping - Importance of Self Worth

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

Thank you so much for your special interest in providing reading material for high school students. This year has been particularly challenging, especially in Florida with so many titles being banned or flagged. Sadly, it is exactly the books that talk about alienation, coping, the value of self worth from different perspectives that are being singled out.

High school students need exposure to great literature and help navigating the questions it brings up. These students live in a complex world and great books help students to develop an understanding of it. I continue to challenge everyone to read, even when some perceive these books to be detrimental.”

    With gratitude,

  • Lure Them to Literature!

    Funded Mar 17, 2023

So far this school year (30 days) students have read two entire novels. It's so exciting to see students who "never" read for pleasure, open a book and get involved in the story.

I use these high interest novels to draw students in and talk about the meta cognitive skills that go into being a better reader. If they read something that doesn't make sense, they simply stop and reread. We talk about vocabulary and how to navigate unknown words by identifying word parts or similar words we know.

This is made a tremendous impact on the lives of young readers. Thank you so much.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Taylor

  • Colors Bring Words to Life

    Funded Oct 18, 2022

Students who make an authentic connection with literature is a priceless experience! In the words of a sixteen year old student, "thank you for giving me the chance to read this book. I would never have done it without you." This is an actual quote from one of my students after reading Chinua Achebe's Novel, Things Fall Apart.

Thanks to the generous donations our class not only read the novel but responded to the text using the colored pencils to create an image of each character, chapter, scene.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Taylor

Have you ever seen a teenager without a phone in their hands or back pockets? No? Neither have I. I want to give students an opportunity to read a book in print ( not digitally ) that is interesting and something they can relate to. This project will be an opportunity for students to “unplug” and immerse themselves in the language of words and the beautiful story they tell. I want to provide a copy of the book as a class set so we can read and engage in conversation about the story.
