My Students: One major challenge facing the students in my special day class is a lack of math skills ranging from simple multiplication facts to understanding how to relate this information to word problems and other math concepts. I teach in a title one school where 95% of the students are on free lunch. Our district, LAUSD has been hit with huge financial difficulties. The students that enter my class have limited supplies and limited academic abilities. With the budget issues, testing concerns and overall student growth during the year, it is very important that my students develop a love and an understanding for Math. These skills will help my students not only in Math, but carry over to Science, Social Studies and the real world.
