  • Books for Early Readers

    Funded Jan 23, 2023

My students love to read books and they feel proud when they can read on their own. However, our library was in need of some new books for my students to enjoy independently. Your donation has added to our library and given my students a variety of books to choose from that they can proudly read independently.

These gifted Early Readers are written using words my students can sound out and high frequency words we study in class. They offer, necessary, super enjoyable, practice in reading.

Thank you for your generous donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Galbraith

  • Classroom Library Essentials

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Thank you for your very generous donation.

My students love to read, and research shows that children who read for enjoyment perform better academically than those who don't.

Reading helps children develop a broader vocabulary, it exposes them to other cultures, and increases their general knowledge.

These new books for our library have offered my students a variety of books to choose from. They have the opportunity to read and listen to non-fiction books and all time favorites that they like to read over and over again. They also enjoy picture dictionaries, which have been beneficial for my students who are learning the English language.”

    Ms. Galbraith

  • Scholastic Magazines for Knowledge Building

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Thank you for you very generous donation. My first grade students need to build their background knowledge, increase their vocabulary, and practice reading. Scholastic magazines offer my students the opportunity for all of this while giving them access to interesting and relevant information.

My students can't get enough when it comes to Scholastic magazines, they love reading the articles, listening to stories, and learning new and interesting facts.

Without fail these magazines spark conversations allowing my students practice in academic discussions. They often use the new vocabulary introduced while conversing with their classmates, and they build background knowledge, which will help them make connections as they move along in their academic career.”

  • Back to School Supplies for First Graders

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Thank you for your very generous donation. My first grade students come from a low-income/high-poverty neighborhood in the South Bronx and have not been afforded the opportunities that children in more well-to-do neighborhoods are given. One opportunity they often miss is back-to-school supply shopping.

Thank you for helping me supply my students with quality supplies for their academic success.

These supply boxes have allowed each student to have their own supplies stored at their table. Ticonderoga pencils are excellent for writing and sharpen well. Quality pencil sharpeners are extremely useful, and so are scissors, glue, and colored pencils. The labels were used for students' names on their supply boxes.”

  • First Grade Writers

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Thank you very much for your very generous donation.

My first grade students are learning to sound words out and write sentences.

A favorite activity of theirs is to listen to sounds, words, and sentences dictated. Their job, after listening, is to sound the sounds/words out and write them correctly.

The whiteboards, dry erase markers, and erasers allow my students to encode and fix mistakes easily, as they go back and check their work. They love using these supplies and truly appreciate your gift.”

  • Brain Building Phonics Activities

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Thank you for your very generous donation. Decoding is a key skill for learning to read. If students can't decode words their reading will lack fluency, their vocabulary will be limited, and their reading comprehension will suffer.

Decoding skills are critical for reading success, and these materials have given my students more interesting opportunities to practice this skill.

The Touch Read Phonics Word Match- Complete Set and the Touch Read Phonics Sentence Match - Complete Set are fun and beneficial additions to our Literacy Center, and they are used in small groups to supplement reading instruction.

My students need practice in decoding and these materials have given them this practice.”

  • Building Our Classroom Library

    Funded Sep 6, 2022

Thank you very much for your very generous donation. Research shows that children who read for enjoyment perform better academically than those who don't.

Reading helps children develop a broader vocabulary, it exposes them to other cultures and increases their general knowledge.

Adding "Eyewitness Nonfiction Readers" and "I Can Read Readers" to our library has offered my students a variety of books to choose from. They love books they can read independently and appreciate the diverse selection of both fiction and non-fiction books they can choose from. My class loves books and they are thrilled to have new additions to our library!”

My three year olds do not recognize their written names yet. Having access to a printer in our classroom will make it possible to print multiple pictures of my students, which will be used along with their written name, and will aide with their name recognition. A printer in our classroom will allow my students access to teacher created activities. As well, staying connected to families and keeping them informed will be made easier with access to a printer for notes home, class newsletters, and other important information that families might need. A printer in the classroom has many uses and will be utilized often to enhance learning in our 3K classroom.
