Exciting Books for Struggling Readers
Funded Jan 7, 2025I have a particular student who has been so excited to read all of these new books! She has been requesting more of the Magic Tree House series to read, as well as the Bug Scouts books. I know that getting hooked on a series is one of the best ways to get reluctant readers engaged, and it's working. This is particularly impactful because she is one of the struggling readers I was hoping to engage with these books.
In class, we teach students to find "just right" books. These are books that students want to read, and books at their just right level. The books purchased by this project check both of those boxes for my students!
This project has helped my struggling readers get closer to their goals. Thank you!”

More Student Choice: Sensory Items & Alternate Seating
Funded Apr 2, 2024Thank you! Your contribution of wobble stools, sensory tools and alternate seating options has made my classroom a more inclusive and joyful place! I have developed a system for students to use the alternate seating or sensory tools when needed to help them focus and get their needs met at the same time.
The wobble stool has helped students move and get their wiggles out while still engaging in lessons or independent work. The bean bags are a great way for students to have something to move and manipulate in their hands while on the carpet learning.”

Heritage Month Read Alouds
Funded May 19, 2023Thank you so much for donating these impactful books to my classroom. These books have already helped me share diverse stories from cultures around the world with my students.
I also started the year by reading "My Name is a Song", a beautiful story about the power of names and pronouncing them correctly. This was a wonderful opportunity for students to share the story of their name, and what they like to be called.
This month is Hispanic Heritage Month. I am looking forward to reading aloud "Funny Bones: Posada and His Day of the Dead Calaveras" in honor of Dia De Los Muertos.
I am grateful for your contributions to make my classroom more inclusive for all students!”

Let's Support ALL Learners
Funded Jan 16, 2023These supplies have helped all of my students better access our curriculum in meaningful ways! My students loved the engaging nonfiction texts, which helped them practice skills like finding the main idea and identifying how the text is structured. The math manipulatives have been invaluable to help make mathematical concepts more concrete for my struggling learners. I'm excited to use the supplies for counting collections for an exciting end of year project. And, my students LOVE using the wobble chair to help get those wiggles out.
Thanks again!”

Classroom Library Revamp
Funded Aug 9, 2022My students and I are so grateful for your contribution of new and improved books to our classroom library! My fourth graders have been particularly excited to read many of the new graphic novels this project added to my library.
In my class during reading time, students gather on the carpet for a 10 minute "minilesson" where I introduce the skill that students will practice for the day. Students then practice the skill with a partner or independently while I meet with small groups or conference individually to provide additional support or extensions.
Some of my favorite lessons to teach with these new books have been: reading aloud with drama and expression, choosing books that are "just-right", and getting to know your character as a friend.
There is nothing quite like the blissful quiet of a classroom full of focused readers. Thank you for helping each student find a book they love this year!”

Funded Jun 1, 2020These books, focused on social emotional development, have helped me teach invaluable skills during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now more than ever, it's essential that students learn and practice strategies for self care, empathy, and perspective-taking. These picture books have helped build a sense of community in my virtual classroom. We've had (and will continue to have) rich discussions about important topics and issues raised in these stories.
I can't thank you enough for your support in helping build these essential skills for our leaders of tomorrow!”

We Need Diverse Books
Funded Dec 3, 2019Since our students received their books and supplies in January, we have been learning so much! Using donated mentor texts, my fourth graders completed informational research projects on Extreme Weather and are now delving into their studies on the American Revolution! Students have researched subtopics about the war and have been excitedly teaching their peers what they've learned. Your donations have also helped make our graphic novel section so much more robust - some of our newest books are already lovingly worn!
Most importantly, I use these donated books and math supplies for targeted small group instruction. Teaching with engaging, high interest materials is particularly important for my struggling readers and mathematicians. We use the cards and dice to play math games while practicing multiplication and division concepts. And, I purchased most of the texts in sets so students can read and learn together in supportive partnerships.
Thank you for strengthening our classroom community, and for bringing even more joy to our learning environment!”

Funded Nov 12, 2017I am writing to thank you for your generous + special contribution to my classroom. Over the last few months, my fourth graders have had the opportunity to read new and intriguing books each day. They have been particularly excited about reading the guided reading sets this campaign was able to fund!
Each day in our classroom begins with reading time. I meet with small groups of students to discuss what they've been reading and to provide support and guidance. When students are interested in the books they are reading, the room is absolutely quiet. They are totally enveloped in the worlds imagined in these new books. This is truly a great way to start the day.
Most of the photos I've posted on my page are from one of my guided reading groups in particular. These students are reading the book Wonder, which they have all really fallen in love with. I'm excited to share this story with some of my other students once they are done reading it!
Know that your support has made an impact - my students and I so appreciate your thoughtfulness.”
