I believe that providing choice for student seating is one way to accommodate individual learners in the classroom and help every child be successful. I currently have a standing table with balance boards borrowed from PE, a few yoga balls, a handful of floor desks, and home sewn cushions for students to sit on while they are on the carpet. I know that every child learns differently and that it is okay for students to learn while standing, laying down or reclining. I teach my students that they are in charge of their own bodies and that they need to find a place that they can be successful. Providing choice of seating can help students learn about their needs and what works best to help them focus and learn. The alternative seating options I have selected are some things that I have always wanted but could never afford on my own. I have borrowed all of these tools in the past from different people, but would love to give my kids the opportunity to have our own class set of choices. I chose the wobble seats because they allow students to still fee like they are in a chair, but allows some movement. Many of my students prefer balls, so I chose balls with feet so they don't roll around. The floor cushions are small enough to store easily, but are very comfortable and I chose balance boards so that I can give the boards back to our PE teacher. Thank you for helping this dream become a reality!
