When my younger students, in grades K-1, learn about life cycles, there are only so many worksheets they can see to help them understand the concept. Having actual pieces of a life cycle, that explains each stage and helps them to physically see and manipulate the transformation, brings that "AHH-HAA" moment, when the light bulb goes off to life! Last year I bought Caterpillar Eggs that transformed into butterflies. Every class would check them out and draw/write about what was different from the week before. That was one of the highlights of learning about life cycles for them; every-time they came into the classroom they would run over to the butterfly net to see what was going on! I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand. Science is a subject that has many opportunities for exploration. When students are able to build, break apart, and see transformations or mistakes, that is when they are actively engaged in their learning. These educational resources help to bring their learning to another level, where comprehension and understanding is quicker than reading it from a text or trying to figure it out on a worksheet.
