My students need a Lego community Starter set and a table to build Lego on. Studies show that students who are in control of their own learning experience are motivated learners. Our school's goal is to create a Lego maker space to allow both a break for students but also an activity that can help them accurately follow directions, see a project through from beginning to end, and experience a sense of success. Access to this learning space would foster creative learning opportunities as well as rejuvenate the childhood experience of imagination for struggling students who are less likely to experience success in the traditional classroom. Children with autism, Down Syndrome and attentional issues would benefit greatly from hands-on learning experiences through Legos. This maker-station would be used to help these students regulate their behavior, create projects from scratch, problem solve and share their accomplishments with the rest of their classmates.
