An inviting reading area is crucial in a library media center. Our students enjoy reading near one another. We had an old "reading roost" that was a favorite to all; however, after many years of use, it became a health hazard and was removed. Who wouldn't want to plop down in a beanbag chair and read a good book? They appeal to children of all ages. We need a safe comfortable area for children to congregate and read. The positive peer influence of close proximity reading encourages the most apprehensive readers to equate reading with happiness. As you can see from our picture, our current independent reading area is more geared toward adults.
