I find preschool students, especially those with special learning needs engage best with materials that are colorful and interactive. My school does not have a colored printer, cardstock, or velcro for teachers to use in the creation of materials for students which makes creating these kinds of materials challenging. Having access to colored printing will allow me to create materials my students will be more interested in. While lamination and velcro will allow me to make them durable and add an aspect of student participation to them which makes them generalizable to many different learners and student goals. Additionally, I have students who are learning to use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) to have a voice and more fully participate in their environments. Many of these AAC systems have an integrated aspect of color which make them more effective and easier to navigate. By not printing these materials in color their efficacy is reduced and student engagement is even more challenging.
