In my classroom, we currently have an old CD player. Each time students listen to books on CD, the CD player will skip and make funny scratchy sounds. My students are always telling me it is difficult and hard to understand. The CD player I am requesting is extremely lightweight, easy to maneuver, and will have a clearer sound quality than the old one we have. With clearer sound quality, students listen to the stories with ease and will be able to visualize the story in their heads along with using the pictures from the books. Audiobooks and listening to stories have been proven successful in helping students to access literature and enjoy books...it helps to build fluency skills including proper phrasing and expression..it helps students improve sight word recognition..it helps build comprehension..it allows students to hear the tone and pace of a skillful reader. Students can listen to the books and then read the books by themselves during independent reading. By listening to the books on CDs, my students are exposed to new words which they will be able to recall during independent and partner reading. These items will help improve my students' reading skills, sight words skills, and writing skills to become better writers and readers.
