  • What's Math B?!

    Funded Dec 31, 2013

Please accept my gratitude for your generous donation. Thank you for giving my class the opportunity to be enthused about mathematics and feel like they are capable of solving any problem. My students were excited to see the shipment of new Barron's Regents Review books. They came just in time for the handful of students taking the Geometry Regents Exam in January. They were eager to have new resources to study from, and this made the test preparation enjoyable. The books are easy to use, and the students are able to refer to explained answers when they need help.

The remainder of my students are slated to take their state exams in June and have already put these books to use. The most math-phobic students in Geometry and in Algebra 2 are put at ease with this review book as it concisely clarifies key concepts and is easy to navigate. Your kindness has alleviated test anxiety for many of my students and they feel like they know what to expect on their culminating exams.

These books have also helped me to differentiate instruction for varying needs. Whereas one student may need more practice in composition transformations, another may need reinforcement in Euclidean proofs. These books offer a plethora of practice exercises and review of basic skills. I am able to guide students according to their needs using the review books. Not only have these resources assisted in regular instruction, but have also helped to make after school tutoring sessions more robust. They provide ready topic-by-topic extra help at our finger tips without having to reach for multiple textbooks or online materials that do not adequately cover all the the topics my students are responsible for mastering. Thank you for helping my students develop independent study habits and enabling them to have ownership of their scholastic achievements; we could not have been so mathematically empowered without your contribution!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Budhraja

  • Mathematics Powered by Technology

    Funded Feb 17, 2012

Thank you again for your generous donations! My students and I are deeply appreciative of the laptop, markers, batteries, and calculators. All of my classes have greatly benefited from these supplies and have been encouraged by them. It is unbelievable how even the smallest thing, like a fresh marker for the board, can go a long way to liven up my classroom. The effect of these tools on my students is that feel cared for, and they are motivated to do the best they can in mathematics.

The Dell laptop really helped my geometry students with constructions using a compass and straightedge. This topic is normally difficult to demonstrate with regular manipulative tools. My students were able to watch simulations that allowed us to pause and replay and truly allowed me to simultaneously reach every student in the classroom.

My students were just as thrilled as I was to use the Dell laptop to understand concepts. Who doesn't love understanding a new concept and getting it right on the first try? This is exactly what your donation helped to do for my class. Having ready access to a laptop has made it easy to simply refresh old topics or catch up a student who might have missed the lesson. In just a few clicks, they are brought up to speed. Geometry is an extremely visual course and these materials have helped us bring math to life!”

    With gratitude,

  • Math Comes To Life Through Technology

    Funded Nov 5, 2010

My students and I would like to express our utmost gratitude for your donation. The netbook donated to our classroom has greatly changed the dynamics of instruction. Math lessons truly do come to life as they are able to become interactive with the aid of a previously donated projector. My students are engaged by this added technology which not only helped them to better understand mathematical concepts, but to enjoy the process simultaneously.

My students are so eager and excited to see demonstrations via the netbook. They become deeply involved in the demonstrations containing animations that can be manipulated. The interactiveness allows students to have a stronger understanding of topics that would otherwise be harder to comprehend.

In addition to using the netbook to enhance lessons during class hours, we have also been able to use it after school. Because of its mobility, I am able to carry the netbook with me everywhere I go. No matter where I am, I can immediately attend to a student's request to access their grades online so that they are consistently updated on their progress in the course. I communicate with students online and can easily send them useful math resources to supplement the material I am teaching in class. This netbook truly helps me meet the individual needs of each student.

I would like thank you again for your kindness and I cannot fully convey our appreciation for your donation to our classroom.

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Budhraja

  • Technology Helps Students Experience Math

    Funded Mar 2, 2010

I can't fully express how grateful I am for your donations. My students were excited for the new LCD projector and I was just as thrilled to incorporate it into my lessons. I am always looking for new ways to engage the students and make them get involved in the lesson. The projector did exactly that! I found many interactive resources online that I was able to share with my students.

Not only did the technology make my students more interested in the material, it made abstract concepts easier to grasp. It allowed me to show them graphs and ideas that I could not articulate with a marker and a whiteboard alone.

Before the projector, students had trouble visualizing three-dimensional objects. With the aid of animations on the projector, they were able to overcome this barrier and understand more. Your donations are helping us grow in technology and keep up as an emerging digital classroom. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Budhraja

I have been teaching for over a decade at the public high school level in Brooklyn. My goal is to push students to achieve their core math requirements and to create a hunger for higher level mathematics and STEM learning. I want my students to have the opportunity of taking Advanced Placement courses and college-level math during high school. I hope that once they leave high school, they will have already developed the critical thinking skills necessary to transition to college successfully, which can be a tough adjustment for some students. Many of my students want to embark careers in math and science fields when they get older. They are young and still molding, and I want to foster and maintain their interest.
