  • Music for Sight Singing

    Funded Sep 29, 2015

Because of your generosity, I was able to obtain "Music for Sight-Singing," edited by Robert Ottman, a terrific book of rhythmic and vocal exercises and songs for beginner to advanced students. The book is a classic and used across the country in musicianship courses.

My students have learned how to conduct in 4/4, 3/4 and 6/8 (2/4) time. They have also begun learning how to speak out rhythms while conducting themselves. No doubt, the singing portion of our instruction will take much time to learn. But we are on our way! Thank you again for your support.

    Sincerely,

    David Copenhafer

    Assistant Professor

  • iPad for Music

    Funded Mar 3, 2014

I can't thank you enough for your donations which allowed me to obtain an iPad for my music courses. So far, I've been using the device in basically two ways: 1) as a synthesizer and 2) as a camera/video recorder. You can see examples of students playing the iPad synthesizer in the first three photos I've uploaded to my project page. The next three photos were taken using the iPad at our annual Battle of the Bands.

My next goal is to figure out how to make quality recordings using the iPad.

Thank you again for your support of my class and, more generally, of public education.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Copenhafer

  • A Kit Without a Crash

    Funded Feb 24, 2010

Once again, I cannot thank you enough for your generous support of my class and of my school. By funding my project, you have enabled young musicians to play more authentic, more sophisticated and more musical drum parts, something that benefits not just individual players but ensembles as well. You might say everyone within earshot benefits from hearing our drum kit sound like a real drum kit.

Your donation has enabled the improved performance of jazz, classical and rock music at my school.

Your support is truly exemplary, and I hope others in the business world follow your lead.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Copenhafer

I teach music at an inner city high school. We have only been in existence for five years. I see roughly 100 aspiring musicians over the course of the day. They often come from families with limited financial resources.
