Flexible seating would allow my students to be comfortable and relaxed. By being able to move around while sitting, students' focus and engagement will increase. Many students cannot sit in a regular chair for hours and with this option, students will have a mix of comfort while sitting. I want to create an environment where collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and communication are at the center of all instruction and learning.
I'm a firm believer that if students are comfortable and relaxed, learning will take place to a higher level. How can we expect students to solve problems, without giving them the opportunity to feel comfortable in a learning environment that supports all of them. I know that redesigning my classroom will not be easy, but if research shows that flexible seating gives them an opportunity to grasp more and learn more, I will do it.
The items we need are large exercise balls. These serve as great seats for students who find it hard to sit still. It also serves as great purpose for posture. Many students complain that their chairs are uncomfortable and it causes them to get off focus. I believe by providing these exercise balls students will be able to focus and achieve greater success in their academics. It will also help with the restless students that I have. This allows them to balance and focus.
