The materials I have included in this project are for my students to create toothpick bridges and egg drop apparatuses. The toothpick bridge project requires the students to use either flat, round, or a combination of both style toothpicks and school glue to create a bridge that can support at least 5 pounds. I usually have to limit the amount of materials that each team gets because of money constraints. However, if this project was funded, then my students could build the bridges they can design without any type of constraint. The egg drop project requires the students to build a container that will keep a raw egg safe when dropped from a second story balcony. I have not been able to offer cardboard as a material item before because it is hard to find in my area. Cotton balls are also a very popular item and I usually have to ration them out to each group. STEM is all about building and trying and building again. My students have not yet has this opportunity because I just could not afford the materials to keep going. It will make a huge difference for my students to get to use the engineering design process from start to finish, instead of stopping half way!
