These materials will make a difference in these students lives because they will be able to read books in their classroom that are current, and exciting. The majority of these books are usually checked out from libraries which have limited supplies, or too expensive for parents, so they could be read, year after year. I also feel that these books are great beginner books for my struggling readers. It has been challenging finding books for my struggling students, and these would be great to have readily available. The chapter books will be read aloud and used to do a book study. In these book studies, we will utilize GLAD strategies such as a Cognitive Content Dictionary, where we can keep a running list of unknown words, and practice using them in context. We will also do character studies, timelines (if applicable), theme studies, and not to forget, the ever most important, social emotional studies. Our young students still need help positively speaking to one another, and having growth mindsets. Lastly, the books for the struggling readers will really aid in their learning. I have a very limited amount of books for struggling students, and these books are boring. They hate reading them. They need something they can relate to, like Pete The Cat, Star Wars, and the Dot, to name a few.
