We are a middle school in an old elementary school - the desks and chairs are too small, the counters are low, and space is small. We are varying the height of student collaborative space to make it feel like we have more space by having noise level variety and less distraction. The tables can also be used as stand-up desks moving students from passive to active. Gone are the days of rows of desks with teacher-centered lecture. The design of the furniture is for student collaboration - problem-solving and investigation. This selected classroom furniture will make a difference in students' school lives because it sends a message, allows for collaboration, and inspires creative design. I'm requesting adjustable desks, bar stools, a dining set, and plastic stack stools which will be used for flexible collaborative learning groups. This furniture helps to vary the height of workspace. The intended message of the selected classroom furniture communicates that we are a community of active learners. With this new furniture, we can reduce the clunky, little, old individual desks. The selection is intentionally different than traditional classroom furniture meant to inspire creativity and a positive classroom learning environment. Students will know that we care and appreciate uniqueness.
