  • Safety in the Classroom

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donation to help make my classroom a little safer during these unprecedented times. My students are so fortunate to have received individual supplies, thanks to you! Each student has their own pencil case filled with, dry erase markers, erasers, tissues, hand sanitizer, a pencil sharpener and so much more! This helps us avoid sharing materials. My students love having their own set of materials to aide in their learning process. On the first day, when my students saw their own set of materials, they were extremely excited to use their new materials and begin their second grade learning journey. This was all made possible with your generous donations! My students and I cannot thank you enough!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wekerle

  • I Got An Inkling For You

    Funded Nov 28, 2017

Technology is an essential resource in a classroom. There are many different ways that technology can enhance learning for any child. In our second grade classroom, we use computers, a Smartboard, document cameras, Ipads and a printer. A Smartboard allows us to project material from the teacher's computer to a large board so the students can interactively follow along. Students are even able to touch and drag things on the board! This helps engage students in their learning.

Our new printer is LOVED by our students! Their work can now be in color! It has helped to enhance our students' learning. Many of our students are visual learners and now we are able to provide worksheets in color. Our students are also now able to not only type their writing, they're also able to print it now!

All of our students have truly enjoyed using our new printer! One student, who really enjoys writing and drawing, often types his writing and is able to use apps to illustrate his work! He loves when we print out his work and hang it up!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wekerle

Our students need bright colors to enhance their retention of instructional materials. They often have difficulty with fine motor skills and need the use of digital tools to complete assignments. We need a printer so the students can bring these assignments to life. We don't have access to a color printer in our school. This printer will be shared across all three 2nd grade classrooms at my school. The students will use the printers for everything from writing to math. Students will be able to take and print photographs for nonfiction writing. They will design and print enrichment games. They will also print lab reports. The use of color in the classroom is very important. It can increase student retention by 78%. The color printer is especially needed for students with special needs and English Language Learners. When helping them with vocabulary, the use of pictures is key. Often times the black and white copies are very grainy and the pictures are hard to make out. The use of technology in schools keeps advancing and we want the students to be able to keep up! They should be able to do their work digitally and print a hard copy for their portfolios. "Technology has the ability to enhance relationships between teachers and students. When teachers effectively integrate technology into subject areas, teachers grow into roles of adviser, content expert, and coach. Technology helps make teaching and learning more meaningful and fun." Educators have a responsibility to introduce, encourage, and help students master technology, as well as subjects, as it applies to school and the future.
