Our students need bright colors to enhance their retention of instructional materials. They often have difficulty with fine motor skills and need the use of digital tools to complete assignments. We need a printer so the students can bring these assignments to life. We don't have access to a color printer in our school. This printer will be shared across all three 2nd grade classrooms at my school. The students will use the printers for everything from writing to math. Students will be able to take and print photographs for nonfiction writing. They will design and print enrichment games. They will also print lab reports. The use of color in the classroom is very important. It can increase student retention by 78%. The color printer is especially needed for students with special needs and English Language Learners. When helping them with vocabulary, the use of pictures is key. Often times the black and white copies are very grainy and the pictures are hard to make out. The use of technology in schools keeps advancing and we want the students to be able to keep up! They should be able to do their work digitally and print a hard copy for their portfolios. "Technology has the ability to enhance relationships between teachers and students. When teachers effectively integrate technology into subject areas, teachers grow into roles of adviser, content expert, and coach. Technology helps make teaching and learning more meaningful and fun." Educators have a responsibility to introduce, encourage, and help students master technology, as well as subjects, as it applies to school and the future.
