With the ability to take home individual copies of To Kill a Mockingbird, students will be able to more fully engage with and enjoy the text. Unfortunately, as we have limited funding at our school, my students have actually never had the pleasure of taking home a class novel to read in any of their English classes. Because of this, we spend a lot of time in class reading together, as we have no other choice. While this is important and enjoyable, we find that we often have to skip parts of the books we read in order to make time for everything we are trying to teach them. Being able to read the book at home will make it so that my students can enjoy every word of Harper Lee's beautiful classic, never skipping parts of the novel again. We will be able to spend more time focusing on literary analysis in class, and students will receive more help with writing the analysis (which they also desperately need) rather than reading the text!
