Support Ms. Pogoda's classroom with a gift that fosters learning.
My students have moderate to severe disabilities which impact every aspect of their daily lives-from expressing how they are feeling to being able to request things they want/need. These materials will allow me to successfully build a classroom that will allow these children to overcome obstacles and reach their goals. Students with Autism tend to benefit from visual aides and various forms of communication being provided (i.e. AAC, visuals, technology, etc.). These resources are crucial in teaching them how to communicate with others.
Every student can communicate, but it is up to the educators in their lives to give them the tools and the skills to unlock their full potential.
I hope that with this project I can provide the technology and hands on materials that my students need to learn and grow.
I'm in need of several items to create my new suite of communication resources: Colored ink for Visual Schedules for students to practice developing, understanding, and maintaining daily routines. Colored ink for Activity and Picture cards in order to identify, label, and learn new vocabulary. Lamination sheets to ensure that materials remain sturdy and durable for students to use throughout the school year and in the future. Velcro to allow the students to manipulate these materials when building and expanding sentences, or identifying that an activity is completed on the visual schedule. A Foam Mat to ensure that my students have a safe space to take breaks or calm down as they get used to these new tools. An iPad is an endless source of new information and an excellent way for students to access activities and communication apps.
