Thank you so much for your generosity and support! I am excited to be able to use new programs with my students and give them a great virtual learning experience. This laptop will help all of my middle school scholars learn more about art and introduce career options in graphics and digital work. Thank you again. Your thoughtfulness is truly appreciated.”

  • The Science Behind Art

    Funded Dec 16, 2017

Thank you for your generous donation! Being an art teacher can really get expensive sometimes and my school budget can only cover so much of the projects for my students and any help I can receive on their behalf to ensure their ongoing education will always be greatly appreciated! With your help great things will continue to happen in my classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Hillie

  • Pick a Pot of Creativity

    Funded Dec 29, 2017

Thank you from the bottom of my heart as well as the bottom of each and everyone of my students' hearts! This donation will make it possible for my kids to continue with their exploration of three dimensional work as well as being able to allow the students to take their projects home with them and not have to recycle their materials at the end! Thank you for making it possible for my students to indeed have a Happy New Year!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Hillie

  • Science Everywhere (Thank You GM)

    Funded Nov 13, 2017

The world in which we live in today is very tech-driven. Our students come to school with smart phones and tablets after playing various video game devices at home. To say they are tech-savvy would be an understatement. As an Art teacher, I want to keep my students ahead of the curve and maintain the use of technology but I also need students to create works of art. How can I create a marriage between the two? With the help of Donors Choose, that's how!

Through your generous donations, I am able to help my students continue with hands on experience with technology in the classroom. As mentioned before, I teach art so my classroom only has one computer, my own for personal use at my desk. With your help I now have an essential tool for the art room! When my class worked on architectural replicas of houses, they were able to go on the laptop and compare their houses with styles from around the world! When I teach about a certain artist from history, they can search for various other works from the artist that I might not have in the room. The students are now creating three dimensional looking graphics on the laptop and sending the images to their parents at work to brighten their day!

The addition of the laptop to my classroom has made a great impact to my classroom and on my students. They are constantly learning new things and new ways to use this tech in the classroom as well teaching this old dog new tricks! They get excited to work with the tech as much as possible. While most of my students have smart phones, very few living in this urban community have computers at home. This welcome addition to my room will help my students become better prepared for their future and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Hillie

Do you remember the clay pots you made in elementary school? It's almost like a rite of passage where you learn the new techniques to create a different one each year to give to your parents. My art budget is almost non-existent. I can request regular classroom supplies like paper, markers, and colored pencils, but consumable items like clay are hard to come by. With this project, we will be using different techniques to make clay pots to decorate and take home. The non-hardening clay will be used to learn the techniques such as pinching and rolling, and then the air drying clay will be used for the actual projects. We will let them dry, add some more style to them with paint, and spray with sealant to help them last forever. In order for students to see how art applies to real life, we will be doing these pots when the students are learning about Earth's resources in science class. We will talk about clay and what it is made of and where it comes from while we are working with the art.
