My students are returning to the school building after being away for 18 months. Learning at home had its challenges but returning to school will have its own unique challenges. Students will still be using Chrome books in the classroom to learn and are expected to bring their school issued devices to school daily and charged. However, my students are Special Education fourth and fifth graders that are not yet fully responsible and many have trouble with organizational skills. Therefore, many of them will forget to bring their devices or forget to charge them. In addition, students will be moving from class to class which they have not been doing and using the devices in other classes before me so even if they are charged when they come in, they might not be charged when they get to my class. This will create a real loss of learning because I will not have loaners to give them since my district has used up all their devices. By giving my Special Education Students Chrome books to keep in school you are ensuring that learning will be seamless and if a student does not have a device or one that is not charged, we will have a backup for them. This will help my students from falling behind in their classwork. Being prepared for school is a life skill that I work hard on teaching my Special Education Students and at the middle school age it is imperative that they learn it to be prepared for high school. However, because students have been out of school for so long, they need to relearn all the skills from previous year on being prepared for class and this is not an easy task for middle school. I appreciate all the help I can get.
