In our district we use a variety of software programs for math and literacy. Specifically, Lexia Core 5, is one of our literacy programs that assess students in several aspects of literacy and specifically targets learning in the areas they most need to grow as readers. It teaches phonics, spelling, grammar, and comprehension. The best part is, it engages the students through highly interactive, visually interesting lessons. Each level is themed as a different place from around the world. For my highly ELL population this program has been groundbreaking in giving them a very visual and audible way to work through the complexities of English at their own pace. The program based off of sound research and has proven to be academically rigorous, holding my students to the high standard of work I expect from them. We need headphones to properly use the program so that students can stay focused on learning. Often times I have 10-12 students on computers at the same time during literacy rotations. These headphones will allow students to focus on the instruction given to them (listening to words, letter/sounds, math facts and strategies) and to minimize distractions!
