  • Make Math Bright!

    Funded Jul 25, 2023

My students have been very busy these first few months of school setting up and adding to their math notebooks using the supplies you have donated to our classroom. Our math notebooks are used daily to introduce concepts being learned in class and my students refer back to them when clarifications are needed during independent work time. The bright reams of Astrobrights paper make our notebooks not only educational, but fun and engaging to look at and flip through as well. The students are always looking forward to see what colors I have chosen to make their latest set of notes! They are also very appreciative of the glue sticks you have donated that have made it possible for all of my students to maintain their notes glued in their notebook even if they don't have their own glue for the day.

With your contribution to our classroom, we will continue to grow our notebooks into a space where we can be organized and keep useful information that we learn in math for years to come. My seventh graders taking Pre-Algebra are especially appreciative for being able to have a notebook that they will be able to refer back to next year in Algebra to access all of their prerequisite skills.

Thank you for making an impact in the lives of my students and helping me create resources for my students that enhance their learning experience in my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

  • Making Virtual Connections

    Funded Mar 29, 2021

Thank you so much for your donation of a second monitor to our classroom. Thanks to your donation, I was able to engage with all of my students during our online class sessions. All student videos were able to be displayed so I could ensure that they were engaged during instructional time. I was able to use breakout rooms for asynchronous work and check in with each of my students to check their progress and have individual data chats with them. Once again, thank you for your generous donation to our classroom during the most challenging school year my students and I have ever had.”

  • Learning Together From a Distance

    Funded Aug 4, 2020

Thank you so much for your donation of the whiteboard, markers, erasers, and EXPO spray for our class. My students and I were very happy to receive them! Since receiving these materials, we have been through a couple of teaching modalities: fully online and hybrid. Some students have had to switch throughout the year from reporting to school physically, to learning online. This has definitely been a challenging school year.

Because of your donation, we have been able to use the whiteboard for examples whenever I have been sent to teach from home. This allows me to not only share what is on my screen, but provide my students with a way of watching me work out a problem on a board.

In the future, we hope that the numbers of Covid-19 positive cases will decrease in our district and will allow us to resume regular school operations. When this happens, I plan on bringing the whiteboard into our classroom to use as a focus wall for what we are currently learning in class. Until then, it will remain in my home where I can use it to bring a little bit of normalcy into an extremely abnormal school year. Once again, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your generosity during these very trying times.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lopez

  • Creating in Mathematics

    Funded Oct 4, 2019

Thank you for your donation of the two HP Chromebooks and HP Laserjet printer. Technology is such an important tool in helping students learn in today's day and age. Having access to technology provides a world of information at my students' fingertips. In the classroom, we have been using the laptops to enhance student learning. Students can access educational videos on Khan Academy, complete online individualized lessons on iReady, and compete against each other in online games like Kahoot and Quizlet.

The students are most excited to be able to complete online assignments as opposed to paper and pencil assignments in class. They can now watch a video to learn a lesson before it is even taught in class, allowing them to learn the curriculum at their own pace. They are also pretty excited about getting to use technology to play games to review!”

  • Math Notebooks for Middles!

    Funded Aug 10, 2019

My students and I have been very busy in my mathematics classroom! Thanks to your donation of colorful paper and glue caps, my 6th graders have been able to create meaningful and engaging pages for their interactive math notebooks. They love the bright colors they see as they flip through their binders. My students are developing a sense of pride and ownership over the collection of notes they have completed. In addition, having our own class supply of pencils has helped get my students ready for the day without excuses. They do not feel shamed for not having a pencil with them for math class. Instead, the typical "I don't have a pencil" problem is solved quickly by just borrowing one from the classroom supply station. We spend less time on looking for what we need to get started and more time on instruction and practice.

When my students first saw the materials, their faces lit up! They were so excited to see their Guided Math Notes being printed on colorful sheets of paper instead of the typical black and white. It really does make a difference to them!

In the future, I plan on having my students keep their interactive math binders as a collection of everything they learned in math class this year. It will be a great reminder of how far they've come since they started in my class. Thank you for your contribution to helping my students make meaningful connections with math this year.”

  • Math Tabs for Middles

    Funded Oct 17, 2018

Thanks to your donation of tablets to our classroom, my students have been able to use various programs that they otherwise would not have access to in the classroom. Through the use of tablets, my students are able to increase their fluency on their multiplication and division facts by using Reflex Math, an online program that improves recall through the use of games. Additionally, the students have been working on Khan Academy in the classroom. This program helps the students apply skills they are learning in our daily lessons to technology enhanced questions, item types that are becoming more common as standardized testing moves more towards computer based exams.

My students are excited at having the opportunity to use technology in the classroom as opposed to having to wait for the chance to go to a computer lab or only be able to access the programs at home (if they are fortunate enough to have computers or tablets).”

  • Learning Math Is Bright!

    Funded Sep 7, 2018

Words cannot begin to express how thankful my students and I are for your generous contribution to our classroom. My 6th grade students look forward to coming to math class on a daily basis because of the unique ways I present the lessons to them. Part of my instruction includes guided notes in the form of foldables for their Interactive Notebooks. Students look forward to receiving their notes pages on fun, brightly colored paper that I would have to purchase out of pocket to provide to them.

With your donation, I have been able to continue to provide my students with their brightly colored foldable pages for their notebooks. I have also been able to provide scissors and glue for students who may not have had the resources at home to purchase their own. All of my students now have a supply station set up for their use whenever they need to borrow supplies so they do not feel excluded from any activity because of their circumstances.

My students were thrilled to find out that generous donors like you made such a wonderful contribution to our classroom. They were so happy to see our supply station stocked with scissors and glue for their use. I look forward to continuing to provide to all of my students the basic materials they need to be successful in my classroom and to making math a fun learning experience for all students regardless of circumstance.”

  • Get Techy with It!

    Funded Oct 23, 2017

It is with my deepest gratitude that I write you this letter. Having a set of tablets in our classroom has really had an impact on my students' mathematics education. Math is usually taught with paper, pencil, and a textbook, but your donation has allowed my students to not only learn about math, but experience it as well.

My students have loved being able to manipulate geometric figures in order to explore the rules they have learned about in class. The options they have available to them are endless as they create, measure, flip, and turn their creations. Our latest "Math Lab" consisted of using Geogebra (a geometry app) to create triangles and measure their angles as the students discovered the Triangle Rule of Angles. They have formed a connection that has solidified their conceptual understanding of triangles that they will be able to apply on their classwork and standardized assessments.

My students get so excited when they walk into math class and see the tablets are out because they know they are going to have fun doing something different and I am excited because I know they will be deepening their understanding of what they have been learning.

Once again, thank you for your generosity to our classroom. Due to donors like you, we can continue to improve the education of our children and better prepare them for today's world.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lopez
