Flex and Go!
Funded May 8, 2024The students at Pratt Elementary are mostly low income students. Many elementary students have a difficult time sitting and paying attention in class. Flexible seating will help them to fidget without causing a disturbance. My "Flex and Go" project helped students to move while they are working and allows them to give lessons the attention they need.
The students were very excited to receive the flexible seating options. They love sitting on the wobble seats and using the bands on their chairs. Almost every student in the classroom has a band on their chair and uses it often!
Thank you for supporting this project. It has made a huge difference in my students. They greatly appreciate your generosity.”

Funded May 11, 2022Thank you for the new chairs and alternative seating. The students appreciate having new chairs that are not broken and alternative seating so students can have a seat that suits them.
We are so glad that people like you support local public schools. Often schools get new furniture every few years, but it seems that the chairs need replaced long before new ones are purchased. Many students experience significantly used or broken furniture at home. I strive to give them better things at school than they may get at home. New things make everyone feel better, especially if you do not get new things very often. Thanks again for your generousity.”

Funded Feb 9, 2022Most of the students at my school are low income. Low income students are at a disadvantage to middle or upper income students. Many low income students cannot afford the simple resources that gives middle and upper income students have. Typically, middle and upper income families can afford to purchase books to read to their children, have time to take their children to the local public library to check out books, talk to their children more often with higher level vocabulary, and help their children with their homework and other skills that their child/children struggle. Low income students do not usually have these advantages. Parents of low income students work long hours or when the children are at home. Low income parents cannot afford to buy books and other supplies that their children need to be successful, nor do they have the time to speak at length with their children, read with them, or help with homework.
Because many of the students at my school do not have access to books, I am trying to make it possible for the students to gain access to more books. As students read, they begin to read better, comprehend better, and learn about new topics. To encourage the struggling readers that I work with to read more, I want to offer them a variety of books that they can read at their leisure and not worry about paying for or returning them.
As these struggling readers have access to books, I am hoping they will become life long readers. Reading is a difficult skill for some and I want my students to have the opportunity to improve their reading skills and gain as much information and knowledge as they can from reading. Being an independent reader can improve their lives, inspire learning, and take them places they have never been without spending much money (or no money)!”

Funded Nov 16, 2021With the continuation of Covid, it is important to try to keep students and teachers from getting sick and to be in school. Many schools have had difficulty getting enough supplies to combat Covid and other germs. It is getting easier to get supplies, but it seems that schools go through these items quickly. These supplies will help our school stay safe from Covid and other harmful germs. As it may be difficult to fight every germ, soap, masks, and hand sanitizer are very helpful tools in our fight against illness. Thank you so much for your kindness and donations.”

Building Background Knowledge
Funded Oct 22, 2021We received our books and the students love them! The students are reading these books to instill a love of reading. Research shows that the way to improve reading is to read more, which is what I am trying to do with my students.
After reading "The Book Whisperer," I decided to try to encourage students to read and use a reading log to track how much they are reading. Since I started this in January, I hope students will read 20 books or more by the end of the year. By reading more, students should increase fluency, accuracy, and comprehension along with background knowledge.
Thank you for supporting our new goal!”

Funded Aug 12, 2021Thank you for supporting my "New and Improved" donors choose project. Now that we have been in school for a couple of months, I have found the purchased items to be very useful.
The stapler has enabled me to staple papers together better and faster. The students love to help me staple items because it is quick and rarely gets jammed like a manual stapler. Since most teachers have manual staplers, I have become very popular for stapling.
The Osmo is a very useful piece of technology to use with the students. Students are able to follow along and see the pictures of a story that I am reading for read aloud time. Students can also follow along better when we are writing and I am providing an example for them.”

Funded Apr 28, 2021With the pandemic still running wild throughout the world, we don't know if students will have to work from home or remain at school for their education. Because of the unknown, the items from "Mail's Here" will come in handy.
I am excited about the label maker to put the addresses on the supplies that I may have to send home. This will make sending items home to students more efficient and easier to read. Also, the scale will help to make sure that the packages receive enough postage so the items get to the students will get the items without a problem.
Students will love receiving items in the mail. Because they will be using so much technology, it will be fun for them to receive a personal package form the US mail.”

Funded Oct 1, 2020The students in my class are e-learning second graders. These students login to Schoology, the program we use to post assignments and attend conferences. Even though the students are e-learning, they still need the usual school supplies to help them learn. The students can use these supplies to help them with their work before submitting the assignments online.
The dry erase boards are the most exciting to my students. The students can use the dry erase boards to work out math problems, practice writing spelling words, or practice any other skill that is required. The students love writing on white boards. In addition, I use the mini chalk boards and neon markers to write math problems and make learning games for the children to play and learn during conferences.
Because second graders are still so young, they love having the white boards at home to use. The students will be able to keep these boards at home to help then with future learning.”

Funded Aug 21, 2019Having a new table is a wonderful addition to my class. I love using the table with my small groups. The students love sitting at the new table and like discussing its unusual shape. Since the table is small, I can easily see what the students are working on and if they need help. I especially like the neutral wooden color of the table as it will match any decoration that I may have in my room.
Next, I would like to get some more reading materials for the students to use on this cool shaped table.”

Funded Nov 22, 2019The students love using the tablets with the new cases. The cases help to protect the tablets when the students are using them. Because some of the students are in Kindergarten and/or first grade, the tablets can be accidentally dropped. The new cases protect the tablets as these young students use them.
The students are always excited to use the tablets for learning programs. I worry less as the students use them because the tablets are protected with the case and the screen covers. The students also love using the new headphones that allow them to hear the program that they are using to learn.
Many of the students are getting better using the tablets. In the beginning, some students could not log in, but now they can with no help. I love the new independence that the students have found by using this new technology.”
