  • Our SCA Wants You to Be Part of the Solution!

    Funded Nov 7, 2024

The Crossroads Student Council Association (SCA) T-shirts have become more than just a uniform for our student leaders; they have become a symbol of unity, pride, and leadership within our school. These t-shirts are helping to build a strong, connected community where students not only show their support for one another but also stand together in their commitment to make a positive impact on our school and the greater community.

When our SCA members wear their shirts, it's not just about looking alike; it's about standing for something bigger. These shirts give our leaders a sense of belonging and purpose, boosting morale among the council members and across the entire student body. They create an instant visual reminder that leadership is not just a title—it's a responsibility to help, to listen, and to make a difference.

Beyond the school walls, the t-shirts help make our leaders visible in the larger community. Whether we're participating in events, volunteering, or engaging in outreach programs, the SCA T-shirts show that we are a united group of students who are actively involved and passionate about making positive changes. This visibility helps foster a sense of pride in our school, as people in the community can see the leadership spirit that thrives here.

In the halls of Crossroads, the SCA T-shirts promote a culture of respect, teamwork, and engagement. They remind everyone, from students to staff, that we are all working together to create a supportive and empowering environment. These shirts represent not just student leaders, but the entire school community, united by the values of leadership, service, and positivity.

We are incredibly proud of our SCA members and the difference they make every day. The T-shirts are more than just fabric—they are a symbol of the heart and spirit of Crossroads.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. H.

  • After School Fuel

    Funded Mar 28, 2023

I just wanted to let you know that your generosity has brought so much enthusiasm and joy to our after school clubs! The students look forward to their clubs and your donations have given them even more to look forward to. They LOVE ❤️ their snacks and now have the extra energy that they need to enjoy their competitive activities. They have a variety of yummy snacks to choose from and every one of them has been a big hit with the students thanks to you! We could not have done any of this without your support. Thank you once again.”

    Mrs. H.

  • Bots for Tots

    Funded Nov 8, 2017

My students. That's how I describe them. "My students" Not because they're on my student roster but because they are "my" kids. I am responsible for them. I'm responsible for their

well being and for their learning and I take that responsibility very seriously. When I started the

Donors Choose project I wanted to make sure I chose a quality project that would help my

students grow in their coding journey. I knew that they were ready to take the next step and

the Beebots were the perfect fit for them.

My students have been practicing scratch coding on the computer since the beginning of the school year. They have been doing a phenomenal job and I have been so proud of them. But I knew that they needed a more challenging push to move them beyond the software of coding. That's why I knew that the Beebots would be the next step for them.

One of the most satisfying moments of my professional career was the day I found out that my Donors Choose project have been fully funded. When I told my students that we would be getting our Beebots, they were beyond excited. They loved the idea of creating their own backgrounds, settings and programming for their own three dimensional characters. When the Beebots arrived they were not disappointed!

My students created a whole new universe for their Beebots. They created backgrounds, obstacles, settings, characters. They then programmed their Beebots to maneuver through their new universe. They got frustrated sometimes. They had drawbacks. They had to start over. They argued sometimes. But they did start over. They fixed the problems. They worked together. They laughed a lot. And they learned. A lot. And so did I.

I learned that there are so many caring people who are willing to step in and share in the education of our students today. I wish you could see the joy that you brought to my students with your donations through Donors Choose. I do believe that this project has impacted the education of my students not just for this year, but for the rest of their lives.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. H.

This classroom project was brought to life by Amy Hayes & Sophie Leake Memorial Fund and 13 other donors.
My students will be learning how to code; how to actually write code and program their robots, or "bots" to complete tasks. How cool is that. I want my students to be lifelong learners, engaged and plugged into the technology that awaits them. I hope for them not to be spectators, but participants, creative and innovative. They will plan, design and program with codes that will send the bots through designated scripts and tasks. Students will develop critical thinking skills as they figure out how to avoid obstacles and maneuver their bots through the tasks as quickly and efficiently as possible. I want them to understand the language of programming. I want them to write the language of programming in the future. I hope to open new doors for them in the field of technology. Computer programs like this are not always available for students in Title I schools like mine. This is an opportunity for my students to see that they can do so much more than word processing and PowerPoint with computers!
