  • Sculpting Our Love of Animals

    Funded Sep 12, 2018

Thank you for supporting our seminal journey into the world of ceramics! We are very excited to get the ceramics supplies! We have the desire and excitement, but we lacked the crucial materials. Simply put, we couldn't do it without the generosity of donors like you. I look forward to sharing our first batch of pieces with you in the near future.”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher Benson

  • Science Everywhere (Thank You, GM)

    Funded Nov 7, 2017

My students read about innovations in alternative energy sources, with an emphasis on solar and wind. They worked in groups to design and build a model of a system to generate energy. The system used solar or wind power. Each group presented their design to the class. Next, the students created an alternative energy design at home with their family. They made posters on ways to conserve energy. The instructional activity finishes with everyone discussing the importance of renewable energy resources and what the posters they made at home with their family to conserve energy. In order to carry out this unit my students need a computer to research various energy sources and how they might design a system to harness energy from the sun or wind.”

  • Butterflies, Butterflies Everywhere

    Funded Sep 25, 2017

My classroom was abuzz when the materials showed up. I explained to the students that the box contained art supplies donated by generous adults who wanted to help them have a rich experience in the art classroom.

The watercolor sets were vital to a wax resist project where the students drew fish with a crayon, then applied color on top with the watercolors.

We can hardly wait til our classroom set of butterflies shows up in the spring. We wanted to have the best chance for survival.

The drying shelves have been a fantastic helper. My students just finished a major task of decorating for the school X-Mas program. They painted close to 400 poinsettias for the event.”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher Benson

This year I would love to incorporate science into my art room through butterfly projects. We will start off with simple things like drawing and painting the butterflies with watercolor and markers. Then we will move on to coffee filter butterflies with clothespins and pipe cleaners. After that clay models and sculptures. We will get to the best part by bringing in caterpillars that each classroom can take and watch grow as part of the butterfly life cycle. Children love to create with art, and we want to create butterflies everywhere while learning the life cycle and watching real caterpillars transform. We will follow the life cycle of our butterflies with art projects and learn science in my art room as well as their regular classrooms. By helping support this project you will show over 300 students how science and art go hand in hand to make STEAM.
