CEKHS is starting over. We lost lots of resources and technology during Harvey. We are now sheltered in a nearby elementary school. That's right, we are currently a high school crammed inside of an elementary school. However, our students embraced this new beginning marvelously. They have showed tremendous strength, compassion, and pride in our school, despite the circumstances. So here's our new struggle, our kids are showing up ready to learn only to be hit with book work and worksheets. Biology is so much more than that! Imagine never knowing why your heart skips a beat when your crush is in the room or how UTMB used stem cells to grow lungs in a lab! Biology inspires learners to analyze themselves and the world around them; to think of ways that they can make it better. Having a set of Chromebooks with power adapters would grant my students the opportunity to research and engage themselves in inquiry-driven projects. Biology is a subject that extends far beyond the classroom. It starts with a burning question, research, and then hitting the ground running to explore. It is the type of subject that allows students to take learning into their own hands, and that's something I think my students are truly ready for.
