I work as a speech-language pathologist (SLP) in Holmes Elementary located in Lakewood, CA in the Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD). Holmes Elementary is a Title 1 school which means a high number/high percentage of students come from low-income families. My caseload consists of students in the general education and students from the S.U.C.S.E.S.S. program, the most restrictive special day setting we have in the district. The program is unique to LBUSD. The program consists of students with moderate to severe behavior difficulties who require support from a behavior intervention aides (BIAs) who are a natural part of the program. Most students have limited language, are non-verbal, or use a low-high tech device to communicate. Majority of the students are diagnosed with Autism. There are four S.U.C.S.E.S.S. classrooms at my school with approximately eight students maximum in each classroom.
