Classroom Pencils!
Funded Dec 30, 2019Thank you so much for supporting our classroom by funding this project. Pencils are an essential tool to aid in learning. Studies show that writing helps students retain information and aids in the application of new concepts. Many students are unable to afford pencils and many schools do not have the funds to adequately provide for basic materials. I have purchased pencils with my own money and have had students in the building who I do not teach ask to borrow a pencil. Your support provides equitable access to this basic resource for students in my classroom and throughout the 8th grade.”

Uniform Unity! New Jerseys = School Pride
Funded Apr 18, 2019Thank you so much for helping our team this season. At the beginning of the year, our jersey situation was bleak. The team hadn't received new uniforms in several years and our athletic department didn't have funding to provide new uniforms. Last year, the team opted to play in t-shirts rather than wear the school's uniforms.
The donations that you gave us really helped our season and created a stronger sense of team pride among our players. They were really excited to have uniforms from a major athletic brand. The uniforms upgraded our teams look from ragtag to professional.
The jerseys are in excellent condition and will be used next year! We can't thank you enough!”

Funded Oct 25, 2018Thank you so much for donating to our class library. The books donated by donors through DonorChoose.org helped us grow our reading program.
The library has engaged several students in reading. Every copy of the ten volume box set of Diary of a Wimpy Kid has been checked out since the books arrived. One of my students read the entire collection of manga and is now reading classics such as Things Fall Apart.
My students and I are extremely grateful for the generosity that our donors showed to us. There are over 600 books on the shelf. 600 more opportunities to engage the students in reading because of donors like you.”

Funded Jan 26, 2018Thank you so much for donating to our class library. The books donated by donors through DonorChoose.org helped us grow our independent reading program.
On Fridays, my students use a portion of class time to independently read. They self-select books based on their reading level and interests. Many of the students check out the books and read them at home, as well. This library has also provided me better insight into my students' interests. Knowing what the students check out the most (John Green, Magna, and graphic novels) will better help me curate our library and create relationships with my students.
The library has involved several students who had been unengaged with reading. One of my 8th graders went from reading nothing this year to finishing six books from the Wings of Fire series.

Many of the students check out the books and read them at home, as well. This library has also provided me better insight into my students' interests. Knowing what the students check out the most (John Green, Magna, and graphic novels) will better help me curate our library as I continue to build it.
The library has involved several students who had been unengaged with the reading process. One of my 8th graders who last independently read Goosebumps in the 5th grade was stoked to see we had the first Dragon Ball magna book. He started it on a Friday & returned it to me the next Tuesday! Another student has read five of the sci-fi books on the shelf and constantly hounds me about when I'm getting the next book he wants!
My students and I are extremely grateful for the generosity that our donors showed to us. The program is helping my students increase their reading level and close the achievement gap!”
