Our school is is starting to a new reading curriculum this year. Shared reading, read alouds, and big book readings are a huge part of our daily literacy instruction. Many of these new books teach students about the world around them, how to be great students and members of the community, and how to accept the differences we may see in others. Currently, we have no way of displaying these books easily, which makes engagement, learning, and fun a bit of a challenge. Additionally, the teacher has to hold the big books which limits the ability to model certain skills the students need! With this big book display, we can easily focus on the daily goal, the tracking of print, identifying letters and words, and easily viewing the beautiful pictures found in so many big books! This big book display will be paramount in setting the stage for early literacy development, as well as teaching the students to engage and discuss topics such as tolerance. The students will use this each and every day, building upon skills and leaving Kindergarten as great, confident readers ready to make a difference in this world!
