Funded Apr 17, 2022When my students asked me for books about "people like [them]" I was thrilled. Before that there were some students in that class who I couldn't convince that reading could be pleasurable.
The books that y'all were so incredibly generous to send to us were a huge hit with the students in the class. They kept asking me, "Where did you get these books?" and "Why would they do that?" It meant a great deal to me to share that I wasn't the only person who wanted them to read books that were relevant to them and that made them feel good about themselves.
I said that they could borrow them anytime and in the excitement of the moment I forgot to take a photo until about half of the books had been lent! That alone was a huge success.
The books are still being used and students come to return them and get more. The students' faces light up when they talk about the books. As a teacher it's hard to hope for anything more.”
With gratitude,
