Building a Hunger Free Reading Environment
Funded Sep 29, 2022Thank you so much for your donations. The students really appreciated the snacks, especially with their late lunch times. I noticed the snack time helps them focus more and I've noticed changes in behavior. The new books have been really good for the kids. Lots of the texts have diverse characters from a variety of backgrounds so they can relate to them. Fun and colorful graphic novels and texts help draw them in and get them excited about reading. My class truly appreciated these generous donations.
Thank you!”

Funded Oct 21, 2021Thank you for the new books that you have donated to my 3rd grade ELA classroom. The books we received are high-interest, fun to read, and help engage students. It has been difficult, especially post-pandemic, to get kids interested in reading. It doesn't help when the library is outdated. There is an obvious change in student behavior and excitement about reading time.
In my classroom we do a close reading a small group period. That is followed by the mini-lesson and then independent work with conferencing. Then we move into writing workshop, which is a mini-lesson, active engagement, and independent or partner work.
Thank you again for the graphic novels, mystery stories, and sport book to help grow students passion about reading, in a day in age when technology is taking over.
All the best,

Funded Sep 22, 2020Thank you for all of the classroom supplies. The borders, backing paper, letters, and stars have helped add vibrancy and fun to our classroom. The pencils, holders, tape, post-its, and tape have helped add to our classroom supplies so students have access to as many of these materials as they need.
The students were so excited when the packages arrived to our classroom and they were so grateful when I told them that people have donated these items to our classroom.
These materials have helped the classroom environment become for fun and colorful. The supplies have helped students in their reading groups, using post-its to show their thinking, and their Native American poster project.
Thank you so much for your kindness and good heart!”

Funded Jan 27, 2020These books have helped my students become more interested in reading and more excited about it. I know this because I'm having to do less monitoring and refocusing during the reading period.
It feels like such a relief to me that I can work with students in small reading groups and conferences without having to redirect and speak to students who are bored, distracted, and playing around instead of reading.
It is so important for kids to be reading everyday and these graphic novels have helped boost our library. They must sign out one book at a time and return it. I have even created a wish list for a student who wants to read a book that is taken. Their classmate can check the wishlist and then give The student the book after they read it.
This allows for more conversations around texts because students are reading the same series or type of book.
This donation is so greatly appreciated. Thanks again!”

Technology Allows for a World of Possibilities
Funded Aug 26, 2018The laptops have been very helpful for my students. We use a program on daily basis called "Ready" where students complete math and ELa lessons at their individualized levels. IReady helps close the learning gap by helping students will skills they may have missed in previous grades. Students also use the computers to research. Currently, in our journalism unit, students are writing a feature article about a topic that interests them. The computers help them gather research about their topic.
Technology is very important and is something that is growing rapidly. Have computers available is important and we use the computers frequently in all subject areas. I greatly appreciate your donation and it is people like you that make such a difference!”

Funded Sep 25, 2017My students use Apples to Apples each morning in literary stations and the inference activity I use during conferences. They are very excited about both of these and are enthusiastic about using them. I consider it "undercover learning" because they see these games as being for pleasure but are learning so much. The math games are used during math stations or when we have "game time". I believe that games not only teach children new material but teach them teamwork, cooperation, and following directions. These are some skills my students struggle with and it feels great to see them working so nicely with one another.
Thank you so much for your donation. It makes me feel blessed that people care so much about our students and their well being!”
