Make It Work: In-Person Learning With Social Distancing
Funded Sep 17, 2020Thank you again for donating to our project to get seat sacks for my 2nd graders. They have been extremely beneficial as we transitioned back to in-person learning. We have been able to keep our bigger day to day supplies in the seat sacks for easy access instead of having students have to get up to get supplies. This helps us to maintain physical distancing in the classroom. It is also a huge time saver so we don't have to wait for students to take turns getting the supplies.
The students were very surprised to see the seat sacks one morning when they came in. They right away asked where they came from and thought it was so nice when I explained it to them. Then whenever someone new came into the classroom, they would explain it to them. They have found them very easy and helpful to use as well.
It has been a great year together with lots of wonderful memories. We have had a lot of fun together. Thank you again for helping us with this new and unexpected challenge that came up this school year. Your donation was greatly appreciated and came at the perfect time. Even in the years to come these seat sacks will be be put to good use by many more students. Thank you so much for your generosity and help this school year.”

Funded Dec 5, 2013Thank you so much for all of your help in helping make reading fun for more of my students. I have many students this year who are lower readers and get discouraged reading books, either because of how hard it is for them or because the lower level readers are not as interesting for them. Using the iPods to follow along with reading is such a treat for them and they jump at the chance to read using this technology. Thanks to your generosity, they are excited to go listen to reading, which in turn helps them build their vocabulary, hear more fluent reading, and helps them follow along so they can become more accurate readers. With your help I was able to get 2 more iPod Nanos for my listening center which allows more children to get a chance with this. Thank you so much for helping enhance my students' learning. We very much appreciate your contribution!”

Age of Technology: Readers 2010
Funded Oct 27, 2010Thank you so much for your help in getting my classroom iPods to help update the listening center. The iPods have been met with great enthusiasm by the students. They can't wait to use them and are listening to more and more stories because of it. This helps so much with student fluency and word accuracy. They are also an enormous help during guided reading groups. I have been able to put our unit stories on the iPods and the students can listen to not only the weekly story again, but also the book that their guided reading group is reading for the week. This is extremely beneficial for the students who are reading below grade level. It gives them a chance to become familiar with the story and to really listen to it for understanding while they are concentrating on the words. It is also helpful for my higher readers, so that I can set them up with an independent project. The literacy needs of my students are being better met thanks to your generosity. Thank you so much!”

iNvest iNterest in Reading with iPods
Funded Jun 22, 2010Thank you so much for your donation to our project of getting iPods in the classroom. The students were so excited to get them and to start using them. The listening center in our classroom has become more productive with the acquisition of them. In order to get the most students able to use them, both iPods have earphone splitters so that two students can share an iPod to listen to a story. Every day there is a child and a buddy who want to use them to listen to a story to read together. This is up from previous years, when not many students visited the listening center. I am also able to use them with my guided reading groups. The students are grouped into book clubs by their reading level. We have leveled books on CD so I was able to upload them to iTunes to put on the iPods. Now I can have a group of 4 students listening to the story on the iPod before they begin reading it independently so that they know some of those harder words. This also helps build comprehension and fluency. The use of the iPods has been a wonderful thing and has really increased student interest in reading. Thank you again for your wonderful contribution to make this project a success! ”
