Engaged in Geometry!
Funded Nov 5, 2023My students and I are so appreciative of your donations! We have enjoyed using the Apple Pencil and Apple iPad Air to compare different ways to solve equations! We are currently using properties of similar triangles to solve for missing sides of triangles. On the attached photo, you can see how we were able to compare the work of two students and discuss the scenarios in which we would apply each type of solution.
Our school recently upgraded to flat panel screens in each room, so we are able to share the students' work via Apple AirPlay - they can even share their screen using their phone!
Another nice feature of using the Apple Pencil is being able to change colors to show when inverse steps are used, which you can see in red and yellow above (as well as the many color options available). This is a great feature for my students that need the additional support and differentiation. It has been great to see my students get excited about the real-world applications of something as simple (but important!!) as solving equations, just with the addition of the digital interface of the Apple Pencil and Apple iPad integration. Attached, you can see more of our work in a different application, when we covered similar shapes and dilations. The colorful shapes are helpful for students that need the additional visual representation of different shapes. Below, we have a scale factor of 2 (purple shape) and a scale factor of ½ (green shape). Students really enjoyed using the new technology instead of the usual paper-pencil!
Again, thank you so much for your valuable donation to our program!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Valiente
