Ready to Read in First Grade!
Funded Aug 23, 2018I cannot thank you enough for your generous donations. I wish I had pictures of my students' initial reactions upon receiving these books. They were literally jumping for joy. My students do not have books at home, and most of their parents do not have time to take them to the public library. So to have a place in our classroom with all of their favorite books, characters and topics is unbelievably exciting.
Each day, I read aloud one book from a book series in order to introduce students to the characters and themes in the book. We discussed whether we liked the book (usually this question was met with an enthusiastic "yes!") and would we like to read more from the series.
Ultimately, I want my students to develop strong identities as readers. I want them to understand what books they like to read and be able to explain why. By providing them with a large variety within our classroom library, you have provided my students with the gift of choice. You have given them the opportunity to really connect with a character or story that they will love and remember their entire lives.
Thank you again! Your kindness has had such a great impact on my students.”
With gratitude,

Funded Aug 22, 2018I cannot thank you enough for your generous donations. I wish I had pictures of my students' initial reactions to the furniture. They were literally jumping for joy. When I first set up the different types of seating, students had a chance to try out each one. Students are able to choose their seats each day, and it's great to see them making educated decisions about where they work best.
In addition to the classroom setup and organization, flexible seating has had a positive impact on my students' academic success. Their stamina has increased a great deal. Whether in reading, writing or math, my students are able to sit with a task or book for a much longer period of time. Additionally, in choosing a new seat each day, students get to sit with new peers, which makes for a more friendly and welcoming classroom environment.
Thank you again! Your kindness has had such a great impact on my students.”

Flexible Seating in First Grade
Funded Sep 23, 2017I cannot thank you enough for your generous donations. I wish I had pictures of my students' initial reactions to the furniture. They were literally jumping for joy. When I first set up the different types of seating, students had a chance to try out each one. So far, we have stability balls or "donuts," wobble stools, beanbags, floor rockers, crates and lap desks. My students are able to choose their seats each day, and it's great to see them making educated decisions about where they work best.
Before incorporating flexible seating, I was mostly concerned with the management and organization. Thanks to your generous donations of bins, my students have an organized system in which to keep all of their materials, regardless of where they are sitting.
