Social emotional development is the cornerstone of early learning. My students are learning to understand their emotions. Students are developing their executive functioning in order to be productive members of the classroom and our larger community. The books I have requested give colorful, language rich examples to our social emotional learning. For example, My Mouth is a Volcano teaches kids about a student named Louis who interrupts all the time because he has so many important things to say. The book takes us through Louis feelings about interrupting as well as how he feels when others interrupt him. With the help of this literature, students for years to come will develop good character and problem solving skills.
