Help our first grade class become innovative problem solvers! We are looking to get STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) for our classroom. As a school, we are putting our efforts into providing our students with 21st century skills. The funding of this project will be used on a regular basis to provide our students with the opportunity for hands on building and problem solving. This project gives first graders the chance to be kids, while challenging their problem solving and creative thinking skills. Students will use LEGOS, and magnetic shapes as part of their mathematics, to learn place value, addition, and subtraction, and three dimensional figures. During center time, students will have a "free exploration" center in which they are given STEM tools, such as life size straw structures, in order to expose students to engineering strategies in a collaborative setting. This project supports current standards and needed skill sets to prepare students who are college or career ready. Please help my first graders have the opportunity to explore the way things work, and expand their curiosity of structure and physics.
