  • "Empowering Students Through Sustainable Composting: Building a Greener Future"

    Funded Mar 8, 2025

On behalf of the High School for Youth and Community Development, I want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your generous contribution of materials to our sustainability project. Your support is invaluable, and we are incredibly grateful for your commitment to fostering positive change in both education and the environment.

This project aims to deepen students' understanding of food systems, nature's cycles, and the importance of adopting eco-friendly practices. With your generous donation, we are now able to offer hands-on learning experiences that will inspire students to connect with nature, explore sustainable solutions, and become more responsible stewards of our planet.

Your contribution is not just a donation of materials; it's an investment in the future. You are helping cultivate a generation of environmentally conscious individuals who will carry forward the lessons learned in this project in their own communities.

Thank you once again for your thoughtful and impactful support. We look forward to sharing the success of this project with you and celebrating the positive influence it will have on our students and the environment.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Torres

  • "Bringing STEM to Life with Hydroponics and Aquariums"

    Funded Dec 6, 2024

I am deeply indebted to you for your amazing generosity in gifting a hydroponics kit and grow tent to our class! My students were overjoyed when they first saw the materials. They immediately gathered around me as I opened the box, questioning me about how it was utilized and what we might plant in it. The majority of people had never seen a hydroponic system and were even more interested as they began to get hands-on with the equipment. We currently have lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelon, and parsley planted in our hydroponic garden. Students were astonished at the rapid growth of the lettuce and are already making predictions as to which plants will do well here. One student said with excitement, "I can't believe we're growing watermelon in the classroom—this is so cool!"

Our first large project is a comparison of plant growth in a hydroponic system versus regular soil. Students are meticulously recording data, measuring the speed of growth, and observing how variables such as nutrients and light impact growth. It's incredible to see how engaged they are—this project has made challenging biology concepts concrete and meaningful.

In the weeks to come, we'll try out different nutrient solutions, fine-tune our growing conditions, and even get to harvest some of our crops for a class taste-test. It's not just science; it's also a learning experience in responsibility, sustainability, and problem-solving.

Your charity has turned our classroom into a real laboratory, and we couldn't be more thankful. I am excited to share that we have updates since our plants have continued to grow!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Torres
