My students come to school excited to see their friends and participate in our activities. My students love reading in both languages, and they also enjoy the freedom to choose their own ‘spot’ to engage in their books and stay focused during independent reading time. Because my students spend so much time in the classroom, they need to be comfortable. My classroom, for some students, is the only place that allows for long segments of focused reading, and bean bags will facilitate this even more. Right now, we do not have seating that allows for them to relax as they read. The bean bag chairs will be used in the classroom for flexible seating. They are lightweight and can easily be moved around by students to form individual, paired, or group reading. With these bean bags, students will have the opportunity to kick back and read a book! Everyone is going to want to be able to use them, so this would be an earned privilege to use during other content areas. I know my students would benefit as well, and I can't wait to see their excitement, as well as engagement, increase with our new seating options.
