As you can see, pair students are very happy using theist new technology. It has added to what we already had in our classroom and has helped to create small groups so that everyone in the group can work on the same thing. Some students have also been able to work on the laptop individually. This has helped them work on content that they need more help in. The websites that they go in show them graphics and videos to help them understand the content. The laptop also are touch screen, which makes it much easier for some students that have not mastered the art of typing yet.
I have a few Spanish speaking students in my class and with the extra tablets, now they are getting even more time to listen to stories in English and Spanish. This helps them with comprehension and to learn the language. We have also been able to print out any work that the students have done, so that they can take it home and share it with their families. This has really helped a lot of children in a great way.”
My students were beyond excited when we started to get boxes delivered to our classroom! I explained how these were gifts that people have to donated to our classroom. They helped me open the boxes and were very excited. The calming corner has been used a few times to give a single student a place to go to be alone and to get the chance to calm down. I provide the student with one of the fidgets that were donated as well. We have used the floor seats a few times now. We use them during group work and then just for independent reading. The tables definitely help to make writing and reading a whole lot easier. The fidgets are used by anyone who may need something on their had to help them concentrate while they work. My next step is to get some Chromebooks in the class. These will help make math and ELA more interactive. It will help my students who do not speak English as their native language. Keep an eye out for that technology project!”
We are a second and third grade bridge self contained classroom. Some kids just need some time in a safe space alone so they can calm down and reflect. Our classroom is on the small side and space is very limited so we are being very inventive. The students need adaptive seating, too, though. My class enjoys doing yoga and dancing and I made sure to keep as much of the floor an open space to allow for that and we take breaks through out the day to get their bodies moving! We are a city school and in a low income area. I want to give my students the tools they need to help them with their emotions and learn in different ways.
