  • Tower Ascent: Icebreaker Challenge for Building the Tallest Structure

    Funded Aug 31, 2023

Thank you so much for your generosity! The students had such a great time building various structures as they bonded in this ice-breaker activity. Students learned how to work collaboratively in groups and arrive at creative solutions to their problems.

This activity helped set the tone for the semester. The students were so excited to engage in these activities and were pleased to see that fun activities could be infused in the academic curriculum. Although such activities cannot be done every day, these supplies allowed for interactive achievement, and we are greatly thankful.”

  • CRSE Legal Exploration: 12 Angry Men

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation. We are currently working on our justice unit, and the analysis of this literature has proved very useful. Students have been examining issues on new levels, and have had a myriad of thought-provoking debates.

Students who were previously apathetic, became highly engaged on the class discussions, which is exactly what I hoped would occur.

  • Taking the F Word (Fake) Out of the News

    Funded Nov 9, 2021

Having the Upfront Magazine has helped my students to view what is happening around the nation and throughout the world. Reviewing these articles has helped to spur debates and additional research by the students. I am so thankful that you were able to provide for this very valuable donation!

We live in a very shocking world at times where grave injustices occur. The resource you helped to supply allowed the students to see how fortunate we are to live in a nation with so much journalistic freedom. However, they also realized, just how fragile journalistic freedom can be and what happens when leaders, even in the US, go to the phrase "fake news."

Thank you again for your donation. You certainly have greatly aided the students in my journalism class!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Silver

  • Just Mercy: Literature to Inspire Playwriting

    Funded Sep 9, 2020

My playwriting class focuses on issues dealing with race and overcoming obstacles. Using the text Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption has provided my students with essential information about how our justice system isn't necessarily ideal. Students studied To Kill a Mockingbird in previous years and this new text provided the students with a real-life Atticus Finch who fights for the voiceless in our nation.

Students must know there are those who fight for the people who on the margins of American society. This passionate account of how our nation thwarts justice has helped inspire my playwrights to create original tales related to race and overcoming obstacles in their inner-city communities. Thank you so much for your generosity!!”

  • "Journaling" our Way to Success

    Funded Jun 18, 2020

Thank you so much for these very valuable journals. Especially during this time, when students are both in school and remote, having a place to take notes and record information is essential. My journalism students have found these journals of particular importance as it provides them with a perfect place to record interviews and their thoughts.

Some students have just used the journals as a creative diary to write poetry and their own thoughts which help with their mental health. Although the journals are being used in different ways, they have certainly been put to good use. Thank you so much!!”

  • Nutrition is Needed to Thrive

    Funded Aug 13, 2020

Thank you so much for your valuable donation. The majority of my students live in the most vulnerable communities which have been ravaged by the pandemic. I have seen my students on line for hour at food drives in order to have the basic nutrition to survive. Hungry students can't be productive students so having a little extra food around the house can make a huge difference.

My students have been so grateful for these donations. Although continued outreach is still needed, your generosity certainly made a big difference.

Thank you so much for your help!”

To prosper in a global society, one must truly understand diversity. I teach tenth grade English at a high-need school where 100% of the students receive free lunch due to income. The school is 90% Hispanic. My students are extremely ambitious and sincerely crave knowledge. Their intellectual curiosity would be greatly enhanced by reading The Kite Runner which will build on and improve their historical, cultural, and literary skills. The desire to help those in need and to care about global issues as well as our fellow man are cornerstones of colleges.
