  • Make Math Fun, Relevant and Achievable!

    Funded Jul 20, 2021

Thank you for your generous donations to provide our classroom with tools and manipulatives for our students. We have enjoyed learning about measuring using fractions, telling time with our clocks, counting money, cooking in the kitchen with measuring cups, and building a more solid foundation of basic mathematical topics.

The students were impressed when seeing brand new items being unpacked. They are much more enthusiastic about learning when they cane complete tasks that require measuring, moving, and creating.

We will continue to use these tools to help math math more fun while learning critical skills that are necessary to succeed in daily life.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Badessa

  • Learn Better on a Full Stomach!

    Funded Dec 7, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donation! Our students are extremely grateful for all of the food and drink so that they can effectively work throughout their school day. They were very excited to see the boxes opened!

Our program here at the high school participates in PBIS, or positive behavioral interventions and supports. Students are rewarded with high-five cards based for demonstrating one of the five core values of Lowell High School which they can redeem for prizes. Our students need to satisfy their basic needs: shelter, stable home life, food, drink, things most people take for granted. We can't always tackle all of these, but having breakfast and snacks available helps motivate students and improves morale. This new positive attitude can be seen in the work the students produce in their various classes. Students are able to work on academic tasks as well as learning new skills that will improve their social functioning and allow them to gain employment.

Our students often receive more support and nourishment at school than they do at home. Your donation helped make this possible. Thank you again from everyone here!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Badessa

Students in our program frequently come to school without having eaten breakfast. Many have trouble with transportation and come in late. By the time they get to school, they are expected to learn but are coming in late and hungry. Students simply cannot learn and succeed in school on an empty stomach. A breakfast with some snacks later in the morning always helps motivates students to become more active and engaged throughout their school day. Our program rewards students with food based on their academic and social successes. Positive reinforcement helps encourage students to be better students and citizens at Lowell High School.
