Little hands are busy busy busy! They need lots of different activities and ways to learn and explore materials to help their brains figure out common problems and to help them ask more questions. STEAM is critical for children in education and the world today. Deaf children need many opportunities to explore. There are many materials available in an auditory pathway but not as many that are visual. The items in this request allow students to use their eyes and hands to work out problems and learn. Building in different ways helps little brains approach problems from different perspectives and figure out how to manage tasks. I teach Math, Science, Art and allow children to explore in various centers throughout the week. However, I want to have focused STEAM time on Fridays where students can focus on a larger task or challenge. I like having this opportunity for students to take what they have been learning and apply it to a real hands-on situation. The materials requested in this grant allow students to build, experiment, design and use their creativity to tackle challenges presented to them. Items like K'Nex, Magna-Tiles, and Blocks Rock, allow children to work on specific challenges and to have free exploration and learn in imaginative ways.
