Writing, drawing, and coloring are fun and exciting activities that we do every day but when it's difficult to hold your pencil and crayons, frustration enters and the fun and excitement start to disappear.
Strengthening the muscles in my students hands will help the frustration disappear and add fun and excitement to their learning! Using the hole punches, scissors, tongs, playdough, beads, buttons, icicles, and candy canes will allow my students to strengthen their fine motor skills while they complete counting, phonemic awareness, and phonics activities. The water beads and leaves will provide an exciting way for students to search for letters, numbers, acorns, and spiders that they will use to build words, fill in ten frames, and complete math problems. The light table will allow students to use the letter construction pieces to build letters and words and let them sort water beads by using tongs to fill cookie cutters. The students will cut the paper straws into pieces and then use the pieces to make number bracelets to develop number sense and build addition and subtraction fluency.
By funding my project, I will be able to have these centers throughout the year by changing what my students are working on and using seasonal things to keep the centers exciting and interesting. All the standards that are going to be reinforced are the foundations to all other standards, which will be with them in the future.
